Mark Logan MP announces NEW mobile coronavirus testing centres in Bolton North East.
The MP for Bolton North East has been working closely with the Government to bolster COVID-19 testing and in particular with the local community, by identifying opportunities to open mobile coronavirus testing sites.
Over the weekend, working jointly with Bolton Council, The Last Drop Village in Bromley Cross opened a mobile testing site in the car park. Following initial delays, it is now operational and up and running.
It has been confirmed that another testing site will open in Bolton North East at Merehall Street Car Park in Halliwell.
This comes following a surge in demand for tests, including from people who are not eligible for tests. This has resulted in residents experiencing difficulties when booking an online appointment.
The news of new testing sites in Bolton is welcomed by Mark Logan MP, who said:
“I welcome this joint effort, it’s a great example of Boltonian community spirit coming together to create more testing capacity in Bolton’s time of need”
Appointment slots are released periodically throughout the day and are released in pre-agreed numbers aligned to available lab capacity. Citizens are advised to try again in a few hours if they are unable to find a suitable appointment slot at that moment in time.”
Mark Logan also urged the public to only get tested if they had symptoms of the virus.
Government figures from over the weekend show testing capacity at a record high – standing at 249,937.
The Government aims to increase the number of testing sites to 500 by the end of October. Currently, there are more than 400 in operation. The Last Drop facility in Bromley Cross has emerged as 19 additional sites were created last week with 17 more expected to open across the UK this week.
