Mark Logan MP has been re-elected as Vice-Chair for the Tidy Britain All Party Parliament Group, in a bid to end illegal dumping and raise awareness for local environmental issues in Bolton North East.
The Conservative MP has said he is ‘appalled’ by recent reports of fly tipping across Bolton North East during lockdown, with increasing reports of PPE related litter and antisocial behaviour.
The Tidy Britain APPG has launched a campaign to tackle this issue, providing free campaign resources to local authorities.
In the 2019/20 year, local authorities in England dealt with just under 1 million fly-tipping incidents, an increase of 2% compared to 2018/19. This has been coupled with an increase in the number of court fines being issues, according to the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs.
Commenting Mark Logan MP said:
“I am appalled by the increasing reports of fly tipping at our beauty spots, on our pavements and in plain sight.
As Vice-Chair of the Tidy Britain APPG I will continue to raise this issue on the parliamentary agenda and rally support to ensure a cleaner Bolton.”
Mark Logan has also called for tougher sentencing to act as a stronger deterrent to criminals dumping waste.
In agreement Cllr Adele Warren, Committee Member for Waste and Recycling said:
“Lockdown has highlighted our need for green spaces and nature.
I too, would like to see higher sentences and tougher fines, people must recognise responsibility for their own litter.”
