Responding to new figures published on rough sleeping, Mark Logan MP welcomed the decision to invest an additional £236 million in Housing First accommodation.
The extra funding brings the government’s total support to £637 million and will help a further 6,000 rough sleepers across the UK.
Speaking in the chamber, Mark Logan asked the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government
“to join him in paying tribute to the work done by local councillors in reducing the number of rough sleepers in Bolton.”
The Secretary of State, who is due to visit Bolton soon, agreed and gave praise to the Rough Sleeping Initiative, which has contributed in reducing the number of rough sleepers in Bolton from 21 to 11 in 2018-19.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Mark Logan said “we know that the consequences of rough sleeping to physical and mental wellbeing are incredibly damaging and we need to target the root causes in order to have a meaningful impact”.
Mark Logan highlighted that the recently announced review into the causes of rough sleeping, led by Dame Louise Casey, was a much-needed measure for reducing homelessness in the long-term.
