Mark Logan MP has become patron for Families and Babies (FAB) an organisation in Bolton North East offering evidence-based support for families’ wellness and improve health.
Run by Elaine Edwards for over 20 years, Families and Babies (FAB) provides support to disadvantaged families and babies across the country.
The team at FAB has seen an immense positive impact on breastfeeding rates and chaired by Elaine’s hard work and dedication, FAB now has 47 staff members and 150 volunteers.
On a recent visit to Families and Babies, Mark Logan MP said:
“I am very humbled to be asked to become a patron for the organisation.
It is super interesting to find out about the ambitious plans to grow the service across the country and Elaine has many more ideas to come!”
Charities like FAB are set to benefit from the governments Start of Life programme which will join up and enhance family support services. Bolton Council is one of 75 local authorities benefitting from the programme.
Start of Life provides support to parents and carers, so they are able to nurture their babies and children, improving health and education outcomes and well as targeted support to those who are harder to reach and in most need.
This will build the evidence base for what works when it comes to improving health and education outcomes for babies, children and families in different delivery contexts.
Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on parents and carers infant support, Mark Logan MP was keen to highlight the great work by FAB in Bolton:
“Elaine has put together the organisation over a number of years. It deals with breastfeeding support and information for new mothers.
Does my Hon. Friend agree that this debate is a great opportunity to recognise the work of those organisations, not only in Bolton but across the country, which ensure a better future for our babies and infants?””
Sally Ann-Hart, Vice Chair of the APPG for Conception to Age Two, responded:
“The wonderful thing is that we have so many voluntary organisations that do amazing work helping young mothers and parents with breast and infant feeding.
Our family hubs focus on that, as does the Start of Life programme. It is not just one organisation; there are lots of services out there that can support parents doing this.”
