Mark Logan MP has invited a military soldier, Macbool Wahid, to 10 Downing Street for a reception celebrating Armed Forces Champions.
This year commemorates Macbool’s 20th and final year of service in the military.
Aged 16, he enlisted in the Royal Corps of Signals straight out of school. Then in 2003, he joined the Army Reserves where he currently serves.
Macbool has a proud military background. His father, Abdul Wahid, served as a soldier in the British Indian Army. In 1942, Abdul was on his way to Singapore when he was captured by Japanese forces and sent to a prisoner of war camp. Following victory over Japan in 1945, he was released and eventually settled in Bolton.
Commenting Macbool said:
“It was an immense moment to celebrate Armed Forces Veterans at No10 Downing Street with both my own and my late father’s medals. My military career has opened so many doors that have helped me throughout my entire life, from further educational and leadership qualifications to the endless travel opportunities - and now even the door to No10! What’s more, for as little as a 19 day a year commitment, anyone can join the Army Reserves. You learn from the best of the best and can improve both your mental and physical health.”
Commenting, Mark Logan MP for Bolton North East, said:
“Macbool’s story is inspiring to people of all ages. Joining the Army Reserves presents a whole host of opportunities and transferable skills that can build character and a skillset for life.
It was fantastic to host Macbool in No10 and celebrate both his, and his father’s, achievements.”
