The A676 and A579 in Bolton are set to benefit from over £2 million of government funding to stop congestion and make the borough a safer place to travel around, according to Mark Logan MP for Bolton North East.
The A676 route is a key radial route providing access from the M61 at Junction 5 to Bolton Town Centre and the A579 runs along the southern side of the town centre.
This government funding is focused on improving pedestrian crossing facilities with the installation of new crossings and upgrades to junctions as well as improving congestion.
The A676 proposed scheme is expected to prevent 25.9 fatal and serious injuries over the 20-year appraisal period.
Whilst the A579 proposed scheme is expected to prevent 9.1 fatal and serious over the appraisal period.
The funding will also be targeted to areas where Greater Manchester Police have identified high-risk road routes which have seen significant collisions over the past two years.
These routes will receive electronic messaging boards and increased police presence to help make Bolton a safer place to work, live and visit.
Commenting Mark Logan MP said:
“It’s right that this government is prioritising Boltonian’s safety with this backing of over £2 million.
It’s imperative that the community feels safe at home and out and about in the constituency and these extra precautions will save lives.
Improving the traffic flow also makes it easier for residents to go about their daily lives.”
