Mark Logan MP has invited Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, to meet with the residents of Holden Mill, a cotton mill turned apartment building, where building standards have fallen short.
Since his election, the MP for Bolton North East has been fighting to protect leaseholders of the historic mill from excessive remediation costs and to secure extra support.
Speaking in the Chamber, the MP for Bolton North East said:
“Would the Secretary of State come with me to Holden Mill on Blackburn Road in Astley Bridge to meet with residents and see progress that has been made on the removal of cladding, but also discuss with them issues around poor build quality and how this government can fight their corner?”
This week, the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, announced a range of new measures which will support affected residents at Holden Mill and across England.
These include a new taskforce to pursue and expose building companies, committing developers at fault to foot the bill.
Measures for fire safety include £27 million for the installation of fire alarms in high-risk buildings, replacing the Waking Watch scheme which were previously funded by residents.
The launch of the next stage of Building Safety Fund will also provide £5.1 billion to tackle dangerous cladding.
These announcements will ensure that residents across Bolton feel safe in their homes, alleviate financial pressures and provide leaseholders with security should they chose to sell.
